How healthcare has changed in the past 10 years

Where do I even begin? I graduated in 2009 and it's amazing to see the changes! The insurance world is a mess. They charge patients more for premiums and pay the providers less. How does that make sense? Easy. Your health is not their priority. Their priority is their shareholders! The more they pay out, the less valuable the company is, and the less valuable the company the less people want to buy in. So it all comes down to money and business. Most doctors don't have their own practices anymore because you have to have some business sense, and since we aren't taught that in school, with the added stress of the insurance climate, most doctors fail at having their own practices. So now most are overworked, underpaid and hate their jobs! Yes you read that right. A study done on 12,000 doctors revealed that 92% of doctors would never go into healthcare if they knew what they knew now, and will never recommend it to their children. Now some LOVE what they do! Myself being of those people. Is it easy? Heck no. It brutal some days, but I get my joy from seeing people turn corners and say things like, "wow you helped me so much, I can play with my kids again, play golf again, etc".

So an important thing to note about all of this. Your health is your responsibility. Nobody else is. Diet, exercise, sleep, etc are totally in your control and have a drastic affect on your overall well being. Don't take that for granted!
